Dr Abdul Rauf Sheikh MBBS MC FRACP FCSANZ is an interventional and general cardiologist. He specializes in complex coronary intervention procedures, coronary physiology, intra-coronary imaging (IVUS & OCT) and trans-catheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
Abdul’s passion for medicine stems from his father who is also a cardiologist. The satisfaction and joy that results from successfully treating acute heart attack patients was the inspiration for him to pursue a career in interventional cardiology.
Following his graduation from Allama Iqbal Medical College, Punjab University Lahore, in 2003 Abdul worked for a few years in Mayo Hospital Lahore, the biggest tertiary hospital in Punjab before moving to Australia in 2008. He went on to complete his basic physician training and advanced training in cardiology at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and was awarded his FRACP in 2013.
Abdul subsequently received the Australian Postgraduate Award to undertake his PhD at the University of Adelaide. His main research interest was to provide more insights into coronary microvascular disorders in an Australian population. Following the completion of his PhD in 2017 Abdul was awarded a CSANZ-UK scholarship to commence his training in interventional and structural cardiology and further post-doc research in the area of interventional cardiology at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust UK.
Dr Sheikh is actively involved in research as well as undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and holds an appointment of Clinical Senior Lecturer and examiner at the University of Adelaide Medical School.
During his spare time Abdul likes watching soccer & cricket on TV and spending time with his family
Abdul is fluent in Urdu, Punjabi & Hindi. He conducts regular clinics at our Calvary Adelaide, Findon, Norwood, Modbury and Gawler clinics.
