Dr Mehrdad Emami

Dr Mehrdad Emami MD PhD FRACP FCSANZ is an academic cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist. He undertook his physician training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Prince Charles Hospitals in Queensland. Subsequently, he completed his advanced training in Cardiology at the Prince Charles Hospital in 2014 and was awarded the Royal Australian College of Physicians Fellowship in February 2015. Following this, Mehrdad undertook a two-year advanced fellowship in clinical cardiac electrophysiology and pacing at John Hunter Hospital in New South Wales.

Mehrdad completed his clinical cardiac electrophysiology fellowship in 2017 and joined the Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders at the University of Adelaide and the Royal Adelaide Hospital, pursuing an academic career in cardiac electrophysiology. For four years, he studied new technologies in the catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias, namely Pulsed Field Ablation, in Australia and the United States. Mehrdad completed his PhD at the University of Adelaide with the Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence.

Mehrdad is a staff specialist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide. He continues his research in implementing new technologies in managing cardiac arrhythmias (https://centraladelaide.health.sa.gov.au/first_pfa_procedure).

Dr Emami is interested in all aspects of cardiology, with a particular interest in cardiac arrhythmias. He undertakes pacemaker, leadless pacemaker, defibrillator, and cardiac resynchronisation therapy device implantations. Mehrdad performs electrophysiology studies and catheter ablations for cardiac arrhythmias. Mehrdad has admitting rights and operates predominantly at Royal Adelaide Hospital, Ashford Hospital, and Calvary Adelaide Hospitals. He consults at our Norwood and Ashford rooms.
