The SA Heart 2014 Cardiac Symposium was held on Saturday 8 November at the Hilton Hotel Adelaide.
The aim of the SA Heart Cardiac Symposium is to provide an update on a range of practical cardiac issues that GPs encounter on a day-to-day basis.
This learning forum has the benefit of delegates being able to mingle with SA Heart cardiologists to ask clinical questions in a friendly informal atmosphere. In addition, there were formal presentatations from SA Heart cardiologists Dr Alistair Begg, Dr Richard Hillock, Dr Tapash Bakshi, Dr Paula Averbuj, Dr Luan Huynh, Dr Ian Button and Dr Chuks Ajaero. Topics covered in plenary sessions included Hypertension, Rhythm and device therapy, Chest Pain and Syncope. Smaller, interactive breakout sessions were held on Anticoatulation therapy in AF, Nuclear cardiology and Deciperhing echo reports which included a live echocardiogram demonstration.
This year's symposium was very well subscribed with 72 general practitioners attending the all-day event. The feedback from GP delegates has been overwhelmingly positive and we look forward to the SA Heart Cardiac Symposium 2015 which will be held at a similar time of the year.
The program has been approved for 30 PRPD (Planned Reflective Professional Development) points with ACRRM and also for 40 Category 1 points in the RACGP 2014-2016 QI&CPD program.
SA Heart is proud to be able to give back to the SA community through clinical education in the Adelaide cardiology sector and is confident our close working relationship with GPs will contribute to improved patient care.
