Cardiac Symposium acclaimed

Published: Jun 30, 2009

The inaugural SA Heart Cardiac Symposium, held at Victor Harbor over the last weekend in May, has been declared an outstanding educational event by the participants.

The quality of the program resulted in a remarkable 100% attendance of all 93 registered delegates, comprising GPs, ED doctors and other medical practitioners.

Interactive workshops covered ECGs, indications for revascularization, coronary CT scans, non coronary interventions, pacemakers and automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, new developments in echocardiography, resistant hypertension and coronary angiography and stents.

Chest pain diagnosis and atrial fibrillation were discussed in plenary sessions.

SA Heart Chairman, Dr Bronte Ayres, launched the new SA Heart web site and announced the establishment in July of the SA Heart Education and Research Foundation.  He foreshadowed another announcement in July when the SA Heart Hotline will be introduced. This will give medical practitioners 24/7/365 access to SA Heart cardiologists for immediate advice for urgent cases.
