This year sees SA Heart celebrate 35 years of providing quality cardiac care to South Australians. This milestone is an excellent opportunity to reflect on the history of the business; from conception, to our journey of becoming the largest cardiology group across the state.
SA Heart was established in May 1984 as a single-site practice with five cardiologists (three of whom still work within the business) and has grown significantly over time. Currently, we have 28 specialists and a supporting team of 90 across 15 locations - including 3 major cardiac hospitals.
Over the years, SA Heart has recognised the importance of remaining as patient-centric as possible and our growth to service multiple locations across South Australia, including the establishment of three regional practices, reflects this. This widespread accessibility keeps travel time to a minimum for our patients and increases appointment availability and suitability.
SA Heart has also expanded our range of subspecialties within the cardiology sector to ensure we’re providing the best care possible to our patients. We offer expertise across Electrophysiology, paediatric cardiology, cardiac imaging, sports cardiology and interventional cardiology including structural heart conditions. This ensures we are able to provide continuity of care for each patient throughout their cardiac journey.
Staff development and on-the-job training has always been a priority for SA Heart. Continually growing our skills, together with using state-of-the-art equipment and technology, ensures SA Heart remains at the forefront of cardiac advancements and care in South Australia. The training program that continues to evolve provides a good platform for our team to develop essential core skills and work collaboratively with the doctors in providing quality cardiac care.
The introduction of an executive team in 2000 was also an important step in the growth of SA Heart. Establishing a team to deliver operational, finance, business development and IT related support to the business and its cardiologists has enabled us to continually evolve and meet the demands of the external environment and the needs of those in our care. The team at SA Heart are proud to remain 100% locally owned and operated.
I attribute the ongoing success to the leadership and dedication of our cardiologists combined with the hard work and commitment from the team of managers, clinical and administrative support who all work collaboratively, providing excellent care to our patients every day.
We have developed significantly over our first 35 years, and will continue to do so, remaining relevant and at the forefront of the best cardiac care.
