SA Heart, in partnership with the Ashford Hospital, has supported the ESTP since its inception in 2009.
The program is funded by the federal government to provide non traditional settings for specialist training to help alleviate the looming doctor shortage brought about by a demographic bubble which is moving towards retiring age.
In our case this has meant that advanced cardiology trainees from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital have been able to have three month rotations outside the TQEH, thus giving them access to enhanced training opportunities involving pre and post cardiac surgical care and private cardiology practice, including exposure to a state of the art echocardiography facility at SA Heart.
