SA Heart recently took delivery of a brand new Philips iE33 xMatrix Live Volume echocardiography system.
Three dimensional echocardiography is a unique method of visualizing the true and dynamic morphology of the heart. Previous systems required taking a picture over 4 heartbeats and then ‘sewing’ this information together to create one picture. This only worked if the patient had a regular heart rhythm. This new system captures images over a single heartbeat and can therefore be used on patients with irregular rhythms such as atrial fibrillation.
Another advantage is that the new machine uses one probe which is capable of both 2D and 3D imaging whereas the previous system had two separate probes. SA Heart are the only cardiology practice in South Australia with this new probe.
