Professor Ian Hamilton-Craig MBBS (Adel), PhD (McMaster), FRACP, FCSANZ, FLS (Lond) is one of Australia’s leading experts in the management of lipid disorders, particularly familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) and other genetic dyslipidaemias as well as statin intolerance.
Ian is Professor of Preventive Cardiology at Flinders University School of Medicine and Emeritus Professor of Medicine at Griffith University School of Medicine.
In the past has directed Lipid Clinics with SA Heart (1995 - 2005), and Gold Coast University Hospital (2005 - 2015). He was chairman of the Queensland Lipid Group (2008 - 2015), and is a member of the CSANZ Cardiovascular Genetics Council, FH-Australasia (Australian Atherosclerosis Society), and the US National Lipid Association.
Ian is the author of many publications on coronary risk factors and lipid therapy, and books for the general public including Men’s Health, Bypass, Cholesterol Control, and State of the Heart – Cholesterol and Triglyceride Control.
His current research interests include the Barossa Family Heart Study (investigating FH Morocco, the gene imported to the Barossa in the 1800s by German immigrants) and the SHIP Study (Management of Severe Hypercholesterolaemia in Primary Care).
Ian will be conducting clinics at our Norwood rooms every Wednesday morning.
